As every December 24th, Cubans attended the midnight mass on Christmas Eve known in the Spanish speaking world as Misa del Gallo (Rooster’s Mass).

Hundreds of people gathered this time at the Havana Cathedral, to hear Archbishop of Havana and Cardinal of the Catholic Church Jaime Ortega say mass.

Cardinal Ortega made a call for respect, love, forgiveness and family appreciation.

Many churchgoers received the Holy Communion, and then hugged and kissed, as is tradition during the liturgy.

By the end of the homely, the image of Baby Jesus was taken from the altar and carried to the Nativity scene by a priest, who was followed by representatives of the Church and the people.

Ortega blessed all Cubans, wherever they may be.
