In Ciego de Avila, a province in central Cuba, the tourism industry that flourishes in the northern cays is vital for the local economy.
Moron is the closest city, and many of its residents work in those tourist resorts, or offer services of their own to the visitors.
Two of the nearby cays alone, Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, welcomed more than 390,000 visitors in 2015, and the area hosted the International Tourism Fair last year as well.
The tourism industry continues to expand in the area, breaking its own records of visitors and inaugurating new hotels every year.
Moron residents have taken advantage of the opportunity to provide tours of the area, using privately own horse-drawn carriages or the local train service. Some people have also set up private restaurants and souvenir shops.
