Washington’s John F. Kennedy Center for Scenic Arts announced the holding of a music, theater, dance and film festival about Cuba from May 8 to 20, 2018.
The festival, called Artes de Cuba: From the Island to the World, will have around 50 events, among which son and bolero singer Omara Portuondo and Los Van Van Band stand out.

The Malpaso Dance Company, with its works “Vals Indomable,” “24 horas y un perro” and “Ocaso,” as well as the Argos Teatro company with “10 millones,” will also be featured.
Artes de Cuba will also host a small film festival on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Havana Film Festival this 2018, with the films Portrait of Teresa, Lucía, Memories of Underdevelopment, Strawberry and Chocolate, Conducta and Suite Habana.

These almost 50 events will also feature a piano marathon by Aldo López-Gavilán and Jorge Luis Pacheco, or singer Aymée Nuviola, accompanied by Ed Calle.

Outside the festival dates, the National Ballet of Cuba will take “Don Quijote” and “Giselle” to the Kennedy Center on May 29 and June 3.

The Kennedy Center is a public-private initiative that opened in 1971 as the nation’s memorial to President John F. Kennedy (assassinated in 1963) and which is visited by some 20 million persons every year.
