Cuban students to get higher monthly stipends

Published in the Gaceta Oficial No. 87, the regulation establishes that students in the first and second years of university careers will receive 200 pesos per month, 300 those of third and 400 those of fourth and fifth years, as part of the monetary reorganization process that will officially start on January 1st.

Cuban university students will collect higher amounts of money per month for stipends, loans and assistantships, in accordance with Resolution No. 108/20, of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES).

Published in the Gaceta Oficial No. 87, the regulation establishes that students in the first and second years of university careers will receive 200 pesos (CUP) per month, 300 those of third and 400 those of fourth and fifth years, as part of the monetary reorganization process that will officially start on January 1st.

In the case of students in sixth year of the Medicine specialty, and fifth-year Stomatology and Nursing students, the monthly stipend will be 852 Cuban pesos. That same amount will be paid to students of pedagogical sciences careers who are inserted in the teaching institutions of their respective educational levels for job and research training that is provided for in the study plans, the norm indicates.

The payment previewed for student assistants was raised to 100 pesos per month during the first year of service, 140 during the second, 180 the third, and 220 for the fourth and fifth years of assistantship. Meanwhile, for work practices, students in the day course will receive a daily amount of 90 pesos for lunch and 30 for transportation.
The resolution of the MES, which takes effect as of January 1, also establishes that the payment of the work practice will be made in advance, in all cases.

Less than two weeks before the start of the monetary reorganization process in Cuba, the Gaceta Oficial Extraordinaria number 78 published the new payment amounts and procedures for students and children, adolescents and young people without family protection, established by the Ministry of Education.

Payments to students with disabilities and children without family protection

Resolutions 182 and 183 issued by the Cuban Ministry of Education establish that students with physical-motor disabilities, interned in national schools, will also receive a monthly stipend for extracurricular activities, which will amount to 120 pesos, reported the Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN) news agency.

Scholarship students with behavioral disorders in the first category of Special Education will also receive 120 pesos per month for 10 months, and those in the second category will receive the same amount for 12 months.

According to the ACN, students with behavioral disorders who study in a semi-intern regime will receive a monthly stipend of 40 CUP, during the 10 months of the school year.

Both students of Technical and Professional education and those of Special Education will have a stipend of 16 Cuban pesos for daily food needs during the intern period. Resolution 182 provides that the payment of stipends in mixed circles and homes for children, adolescents and young people without family protection, will be 200 per child from zero to six years of age, 400 in the case of those from seven to 13 years, and 720 CUP for those 14 years old, until they reach working age.

This money, delivered through a written document to the people in charge, will be used in expenses for procedures, payments for services related to personal presence, recreational activities, clothing, footwear and birthday celebrations, the regulation indicates.

Likewise, resolution 183 establishes an amount of 3,600 CUP per year for the purchase of baby clothes, clothing, footwear, perfumery, costume jewelry, toys and attire for each child without family protection.
