The Fidelis sailboat, with a British flag and registered in Grand Cayman, became the first vessel of her type to visit the Cuban capital during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report from Prensa Latina.
The pleasure boat, with eight crew members on board, entered the bay of Havana this Monday morning from Varadero beach resort, as confirmed by Carlos Alberto Rivera, Cubatur western branch director.
Rivera explained to PL that the prospecting and exploration trip began in the Varadero Marina, and that this includes tours of the island’s capital. The Cubatur official remarked that while there the visitors and the boat complied with the current biosafety protocols for COVID-19.
The source emphasized that Cuba offers possibilities of excursions through the nautical tourism modality starting next November 15, the date of the gradual opening of international borders. The marinas enabled to serve vessels of this type are located in Havana, Varadero, Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos and Cayo Largo.
