The French Spider-Man, as Alain Robert is known, after climbing the facades of the most imposing buildings halfway around the world, has come to Havana in search of a new challenge.
The famous and controversial climber has been seen roaming the area of Vedado, according to Cuban media, where two important buildings like the Habana Libre hotel and the building Focsa are nestled, which along the monument to Jose Marti in Revolution Square are Havana’s three tallest constructions.
It is still unknown what property this man, who still bears in his body the marks of terrible falls and suffers from chronic vertigo, will climb. Those experiences don’t seem to make a dent at all in his efforts to challenge the heights with only the help of his hands and feet.
Alain Robert took the nickname of Spiderman after he was invited by the Venezuelan television to climb one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city of Caracas, the Central Park East Tower in 2002. He was offered a Spiderman suit for the attempt and since then he has been seen wearing it in several of his climbs.
This unique Spiderman climbs buildings since he was 11 years old when he climbed the eight-story building in which he lived because he had forgot his keys inside his apartment.
After this incident and running out of challenges in his country: he climbed the most famous buildings as the Eiffel Tower, the Montparnasse Tower and the Arc of Defense, Alain Robert defied gravity and has tested his own body to climb the Petronas Towers Malaysia of 452 meters, the Empire State in the United States with 381 meters and the building of the Sydney Opera House in Autralia with 183 m.
His visit to Havana as the third he makes to a Latin American country after Venezuela in 2002 and in Brazil in 2008 where he climbed the Edificio Italia in the city of Sao Paulo.
In Havana there are other buildings like the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital with its main tower reaching 112 meters or the building of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), also of considerable height and located in one of the main arteries of the capital. These are two options that could also seduce the French athlete.
