Pablo Milanés and Carlos Varela joined in two guitar-solo concerts in Miami on March 29 and 30 that remained recorded in the memory of that U.S. city.
At least that was the spirit breathed this weekend at the Flamingo Theater Bar when hundreds of Cubans sang out loud songs like “No ha sido fácil,” one of the musical emblems of the repertoire of one of the icons of the Cuban New Song Movement.
“Como los peces,” by Varela, was another of the songs that made its way among the spectators who had mostly enjoyed concerts by the singer-songwriters in Cuba and now looked face to face at their past and their present through that mirror of our collective memory which are the songs of these two musicians from the island.
This was the first time that Pablo and Varela came together in two concerts in Miami. The presentations were a kind of public summary of the jam sessions with friends where Pablo and Varela have shared their guitars and their songs in days that for those present have been, at least, glorious.
Pablo has lived a state of permanent happiness because of the way his audience welcomed him in Miami. The musician already returned to Havana where he shared as a family his treasured experiences during his concerts with Carlos and reviewed all the moments that reached the category of memorable for both the public and the singers.
Both artists demonstrated that music is always that bridge well-rooted to the ground that unites Cubans no matter where they live and puts an end to any difference created by men or time.
On his return to Havana the singer-songwriter showed interest in the premiere of the documentary “Pablo Milanés,” directed by Juan Pin Vilar, this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the ICAIC Young Filmmakers Exhibit.
