When updating the situation of the coronavirus in Cuba this Friday, Minister of Public Health José Ángel Portal Miranda reported “the first local transmission case on the island, specifically in the municipality of Cárdenas, Matanzas province.”

According to a report released on Cuban television, the fact is related to one of the cases diagnosed on March 21: that of an entertainer from a Varadero hotel. His source of contagion, it was said, was a group of Italian tourists.

From this patient, 53 contacts were identified, which are isolated and under epidemiological surveillance. In recent days, four family members and a friend were positive for the coronavirus.

The minister said that the actions to confront this scenario have also been contemplated in the plan to confront and control the new coronavirus, which the island’s government has been executing and updating for weeks.

Coronavirus in Cuba: 13 new cases this Thursday, a total of 80

Portal Miranda insisted on the importance of people incorporating the idea of reporting any symptoms and immediately isolating themselves from family and friends.
