Coronavirus in Cuba: 49 new cases and two deceased this Saturday

In addition, 15 persons were discharged, to reach the figure of 92 of those recovered on the island.

Cuba reached 669 persons infected with the new coronavirus, after the report of 49 new cases at the close of this Saturday, all of Cuban nationality and 20 of them in Havana.

In addition, the island’s Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported two new deceased, bringing the number to 18, while 15 people were discharged, reaching 92 recovered.

Of the 49 new confirmed cases, one has a source of infection abroad, 35 were contacts of confirmed cases, one was the contact of a traveler from abroad, while the source of infection of 12 is being investigated, according to the MINSAP report .

The report, closing at midnight this Saturday, ensures that 44.8% (22) of the new infections were asymptomatic, while 23 (46.9%) are women and (53.0%) men.

The most affected age groups are: 40 to 59 years old, and 60 and over with 15 each, for 30.6% respectively, followed by the group of 20 to 40 years with 11 cases (22.4%) and those under 20 years old with 8 cases (16.3%).

As for the provinces, in addition to the 20 cases in Havana―several of them with no established source of contagion―, cases were also registered in Villa Clara (12), Matanzas (5), Holguín (4), Las Tunas (3), Santiago de Cuba (2) and Sancti Spíritus, Guantánamo and the Isla de la Juventud, one each.

The number of hospitalizations related to COVID-19 in Cuba is 2,302, of them 1,538 are suspects. Meanwhile, 8,348 people are being monitored in their homes through primary healthcare.

Of the total confirmed, 543 are stable, while eight are in critical condition and six are in serious condition.

The two deceased were two men of 80 and 88 years of age, both from Havana, who were hospitalized for other pathologies and were later confirmed as positive, the second of them post-mortem, since he never presented respiratory symptoms and was tested for coinciding in time with a transmission event that affected the therapy service of the Calixto García Hospital, MINSAP specified.
