We start this week with the sounds of Havana. We will cover you with this city’s sounds, with its nights. It’s really tempting the offer for Fridays in the Iberostar Hotel Parque Central, so you can’t scape from it. If you want good Cuban music, if you want the show, that’s the place. Run to it.
In Music this and more: Trova en Santiago, Sabina and Cuban Trapton in Miami. In Visual Arts we have a peculiar expo in La Marca because they really want to mark you. In Dance, the presentation of the Cuba Spanish Ballet and Transitos Habana. In Theater, there’s a bit for all ages. In Literature, the presentation in USA of a Daina Chaviano’s classic. In Cinema, a film you can’t miss. And in FAC, everything, as always.
You already know the signs. The only thing left is to choose and go out. Don’t miss the sounds of this Island. See you around!
 

Sounding like Havana

Iberostar Hotel Parque Central invites to a new experience with the show Sonidos de Ciudad, every Friday from 8 pm ‘til midnight. Some of the performing artists will be Anais Abreu, Alisbeth Reyes and Christopher Simpson, the Aquatic Ballet Decher-Lev, the violinist Daniella Mojena, dancers, models, percussionists Las Peyaditas and DJ Sandro Vila in a unique mix. But this hotel’s high standard cooking will do its part also with a Luxury Dinner and delicious tapas. Bookings at (+53 58171852).

Trova in Santiago

From March 15th to 19th will take place in Santiago the 56th edition of the Festival de la Trova “Pepe Sanchez”. This is the oldest festival in Cuba and as every year it will offer ceremonies, concerts, tributes, serenades, musical assaults, a theoretic event and the usual Ruta del Trovador on the last day.

Recognized Cuban interpreters and groups will perform during the event. Among them: Pancho Amat y su Cabildo del Son, Jovenes Clasicos del Son, Augusto Blanca, Tony Avila, Pepe Ordas, William Vivanco and Annie Garces.

Sabina in Miami

Joaquin Sabina in concert tomorrow, at 8 pm, in the James L Knight Center (400 SE 2nd Ave., Miami). A unique chance for everyone on the other side. Buy the tickets here.

Harmony with Yaima Saez

Yaima Saez and her group will be today as every Friday in Piano Bar Mesie Julian, Le Select (5th Ave. btw 28 and 30, Playa), at 9 pm.

La Marca mark

The studio La Marca (Obrapia 108C btw Oficios and Mercaderes, Old Havana) invites to the personal expo by Jessica Zequeira today, at 6:30 pm. Finger nails live decoration, just in case you want some!


Styles and its magic

Cuban Spanish Ballet presents La Magia de los Estilos II, in the Great Theater of Havana, this weekend in the usual hours.

The show will present different titles with several profiles and dance styles. Showing each one has its own way to canalize and express trough movement, accentuating the many folklore colors. More info here.

Three plays transit Havana

Tránsitos Habana, cultural event organized by Danza Teatro Retazos and Memory Wax, begins its sixth edition next Wednesday 21st, in Las Carolinas, Retazos home (Amargura 61, btw San Ignacio and Mercaderes, Old Havana). The event want to promote the creators interchange, widening the horizon for new expressions, cultures and realities. In this edition they tribute Ingmar Bergman, in his 100 years birth anniversary, trough the look of three creators who will present diverse choreographic works together with a photographic show of Bergman’s work. 9:00pm: Play: Vaginas. Inspired in The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler. Perform: Monste Duany, Yordanka Ariosa and Linnett Hernandez. Directed by the well-known actor Osvaldo Doimeadios. Vagina’s placers and aches, and another processes are some of the topics discussed by three women in a self- reflection tone. Nave 3.
10:00pm: Palo de agua in concert. This group experiment with the flamenco guitar, gaita and flute resulting in an original mix of flamenco rumba, bulerias, tangos, boleros and more. Nave 1.
11:00pm: Adrian Berazain in concert. Nace 4.
11:30pm: Session DJ Producer: Ivan Lejardi. Nave 1.

The young Marx

The Philosophy Institute of Cuba and ICAIC invites to the screening of the film El joven Marx next Tuesday 20th, at 2 pm, in Cine 23 y 12. It’s a film directed by Raoul Peck, a Haitian filmmaker. The film tells the story of Marx meeting Engels and how that changes young Marx vision and life.

Two faces of the same coin?

Today, at 4 pm, in the Centro Hispanoamericano de Cultura, will take place a panel discussion about the polemic relation between cinema and literature.

¿Por qué lloran mis amigas?

The first fiction film directed by Magda Gonzalez Grau, will continue in the cinemas. Actresses Luisa Maria Jimenez, Yasmin Gomez, Edith Massola and Amarilys Nuñez lead this story about four friends who meet again after 20 years and start remembering their dreams and frustrations to shape and question their future.

Daina Chaviano’s book in Coral Gables

El abrevadero de los dinosaurios, written by Daina Chaviano, will be presented tomorrow, at 7 pm, in the bookstore Altamira Libros (219 Miracle Mile). The Miami Book Fair and the Cuatrogatos Foundation sponsor the event. The writer will talk to the public and will do a book sign. Moderator: Ainara Mantellini. Free entrance.
