Cuba reports 1,470 new infections, its highest number of daily cases of the entire pandemic

Now, in the 15 months of the pandemic there have already been 157,708 detected cases, while with the 12 deceased reported this Sunday, the death toll from COVID-19 in Cuba stands at 1,087.

Cuba registered 1,470 new coronavirus infections at the end of this Saturday, the highest number of daily cases of the entire pandemic, which shows the high level of transmission the island is currently experiencing.

With this alarming figure, the country reported its highest positivity rate; 7.5% of the total samples analyzed in the day, which this time did not exceed 20,000. In addition, 15 of the 16 Cuban provinces exceeded 5%, a sign of the dispersion of SARS-CoV-2 throughout the entire national territory.

Now, in the 15 months of the pandemic there have already been 157,708 detected cases, while with the 12 deceased reported this Sunday, the death toll from COVID-19 in Cuba stands at 1,087. Those recovered, for their part, reached 149,759, thanks to this Saturday’s 1,027 discharges.

As for those hospitalized due to the disease, they exceeded 30,000 in the last day (30,444), of which 5,511 are suspects, 18,127 are under surveillance and 6,806 are active cases. Of these, 6,655 have a stable clinical condition and 151 are in ICUs: 56 in critical condition and 95 in serious condition, according to the most recent report from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

Of the new cases reported, 1,412 are autochthonous — 1,334 are contacts of confirmed cases and 78 with no known source of infection — and 58 are imported. The country from which the most infected arrived was Russia, with 40.

By sex, 762 were women and 708 men, while 624 were asymptomatic at the time of their diagnosis.

This time 252 children under 20 years of age were diagnosed with the coronavirus, 232 of them are of pediatric age and 15 are under one year of age. Of the rest, 476 are between 20 and 39 years old; 490, between 40 and 59; and 252 are over 60.

By provinces, Havana registered 442 cases, while Matanzas (192), Santiago de Cuba (180) and Camagüey (115) also exceeded one hundred.

Now, June exhibits the highest average daily cases on the island since the beginning of the pandemic, with 1,198, while the rate of infected in the last 15 days is 152 per 100,000 inhabitants. In addition, 117 SARS-CoV-2 transmission events are open in the country, 68 of them in the capital.
