Cuba surpasses 1,000 active COVID-19 cases after registering a new daily record of contagions

In its most recent report on the impact of the coronavirus, the MINSAP reported two deaths from the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, with which the total number of deaths from the pandemic in Cuba now rises to 139.

Cuba exceeded 1,000 active COVID-19 cases for the first time this year, after registering at the end of this Monday its maximum number of contagions with the disease in 24 hours (142), according to figures released by the Ministry of Health Island Public (MINSAP).

In its most recent report on the impact of the coronavirus, the MINSAP reported two deaths from the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, with which the total number of deaths from the pandemic in Cuba now rises to 139.

According to the source, at the end of this Monday 3,262 patients were hospitalized, of them 786 suspects, 1,455 under epidemiological surveillance and 1,021 confirmed with the contagious disease.

This Monday, 12,568 real-time PCR tests were carried out, and the Island has already processed a total of 1,356,561 samples to detect COVID-19 since March to date. Of the patients diagnosed on the day, 72 were contacts of confirmed cases, 64 arrived in Cuba already infected and in six the source of infection is not known; 66.1% (94) of them did not present symptoms at the time of diagnosis.

Two patients in critical condition and five in serious condition are being treated in Cuban intensive care units, while 1,014, which represent 99.3% of active cases, present a stable clinical evolution, according to the MINSAP.

The 15 Cuban provinces reported COVID-19 positive cases yesterday, although Havana reported more than a third of the patients diagnosed on the day (51), followed by the western Artemisa (18) and Mayabeque (13) and the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba (11). Only the special municipality Isla de la Juventud did not report cases this time.

The previous record of daily infections―131―was reported this Sunday, when the island exceeded a total of 10,000 coronavirus patients.
