The beaches of Cayo Santa María and Varadero, both in Cuba, were considered among the best in the world, according to the criteria of users of the TripAdvisor travel website.

In the Travellers’ Choice 2021 Best of the Best ranking, organized by the digital website, Cayo Santamaría was evaluated as the second on the planet, only behind Whitehaven Beach in Australia, while Varadero beach resort ranked twelfth, among the best 25 beaches in the world, Cubadebate reported.

“Incredibly fine white sand, calm waters and a nice breeze. This place is heaven. There are days when you can see fish or even dolphins at a short distance,” wrote a TripAdvisor user about the tourist center of Cayo Santamaría, quoted by the media.

Meanwhile, another participant declared that Varadero—Cuba’s main sun and beach destination—is “a postcard landscape. Fine sand and the bluest water I have ever seen.”

Varadero will receive more sand to renovate its beaches

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, both beaches, Cayo Santa María and Varadero, received almost two million visitors a year, attracted by their crystal clear waters and the tourist activities offered by those resorts, such as recreational boating, fishing, and diving.

Likewise, the wide hotel infrastructure of these Cuban destinations is highlighted, with more than 70 facilities, the vast majority of which offer high-standard services, according to the source.

TripAdvisor, the most relevant international travel and tourism website, released the Best of the Best 2021 list based on the amount of comments and opinions left by users during 12 months.

Founded in 2002, the Travellers’ Choice Awards reflect “the best of the best” when it comes to service, quality and customer satisfaction, from hotels and accommodations to destinations, attractions, and even brands and products.
