New cases of coronavirus in Cuba rise to 15, from Havana and Mayabeque

There were no deaths and no critical cases were reported yesterday, although five people remain in serious condition.

Although there were no deaths, information from the health authorities on the effects of COVID-19 in Cuba shows an increase in infections in the last hours: 15 new positive cases; 14 from Havana and one from Mayabeque.

“As we say here in Cuba, it attracts attention,” said Dr. Francisco Durán, who warned that, nevertheless, these increases may occur.

Durán explained that, of the 14 infections in Havana, eight are related to an active event in the Centro Habana municipality; four with another event detected earlier in Cerro; one in Cuatro Caminos and another in Cotorro. The Mayabeque case is limited to the municipality of San José de las Lajas.

Regarding the detection of “active events,” the director of epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) explained that the application of rapid or PCR tests is increasing in a large part of the population involved.

As is usual in the reports, all those diagnosed this time with the SARS-CoV-2 virus are Cuban and 14 had contact with confirmed cases. Only in one individual is the source of infection not specified. Men predominated over women (8-7).

Eleven people were asymptomatic at the time of their diagnosis and, by age group, they are distributed as follows: five belong to the range of 20 to 39 years; five, to 40 to 60 years and over 60 years, five.

The last day of June left seven COVID-19 infections in Cuba, all asymptomatic.

158 persons were hospitalized and 154 were under primary healthcare surveillance at midnight yesterday.

With the six reported discharges, 2,240 patients have recovered in Cuba from the new coronavirus.

Yesterday, 3,081 tests were made, for a total of 189,599 to date, of which 2,395 have been positive since the first cases were reported on the island last March.
