The majority of Cuban students have a positive attitude towards people of different origins and cultures, according to a result on the regional average revealed this Thursday by the Regional Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The survey on Socioemotional Skills in Sixth Grade Students of the international organization showed that most of the responses of the island’s students are positive in the three areas evaluated: 93% in openness to diversity, 87% in school self-regulation; and 70% in empathy.

This research is part of the Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study, ERCE 2019, which evaluated student performance in 15 other countries in the region.

Another skill was school self-regulation, where 74% of the total responses in Latin America and the Caribbean were positive and reflect the ability to regulate their emotions, the UNESCO report added.

It added that in Cuba, 87% of the students’ responses were positive for this ability, a result higher than the regional average as well.
