In less than a month, Chanel will be presenting its Cruise 2017 collection in Havana. It will be the premiere of the famous fashion show in Latin America.
The French house, under the leadership of creative director Karl Lagerfeld, has found inspiration for this new women’s clothing collection in Cuba’s colors and textures.
According to Lagerfeld the selection of Cuba was based on the “cultural richness and openness of the country to the world, which makes it a source of inspiration.”
Chanel will become the first fashion house to present a collection in Cuba – no international fashion show has been presented in Cuba since 1999, when Paco Rabanne organized a presentation that was no comparable in size to the one announced by Chanel.
Lagerfeld’s designs target a cosmopolitan public, women who travel to tropical destinations to take a break from colder temperatures.
They are also aimed at customers who can afford the pieces in the collection, some of which can cost as much as 8,000 Euros.
The last time the Cruise show was presented was in 2015, at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, in Seoul, South Korea.
Although some media outlets have said that the show in Havana will be held at the Prado Promenade, Chanel has not confirmed a venue.
No other details about the show have been publicized by Chanel yet.
What will be the impact of this show in Havana? The arrival of the French house to the island will bring a new angle to the thaw the country has been experiencing in the last few months, a process that already includes the visit of an American president and a concert by The Rolling Stones.
