Cuban music at the Latin Grammys once more

Our music will be again in the Latin Grammy, now with more than a dozen nominations among which stand out Border-free by the maestro Chucho Valdés, La Cancion Cubana by Miriam Ramos, Vamos pa´ la fiesta , by the Septeto Santiaguero, and La Habana tiene su son by the Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro.

Also competing are the great trumpeter Arturo Sandoval with Un siglo de pasión, Albita Rodriguez with Una mujer que canta, and Paquito D’Rivera competes with Dances From The New World.

Those chosen to opt for the award in different categories were announced by the Latin Recording Academy.

Chucho Valdes and his Afro-Cuban Messengers are competing for the Grammy in the category of Best Latin Jazz Album with their latest album, produced by the Jazz Village / Comanche Music label.

Chuchito Valdés competes in Best folk album, with Chuchito Valdes y Eddy Navia, and will face his father in Latin Jazz, with Grand Piano Live.

The singer Miriam Ramos, one of the most remarkable voices of Cuban song, do it for the category of Best Traditional Tropical Album with her triptych La Canción, produced by the Colibri label, CUBADISCO Grand Prize winner in 2013 where the singer gathers the most notable songs of this genre during the twentieth century and far this century.

In the same section are the Santiaguero and Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro septets. The first is there thanks to its CD Vamos pa´la fiesta by the Picap Catalan label, which pays homage to our traditional music.

Other important works by Cuban artists were also recognized in other categories, although recorded by foreign groups and labels as String Quartet # 5, the maestro Leo Brouwer.

The piece is included in the album Beatlerianas, by The Havana String Quartet, and recorded by Zoho Classix.

The composers Amaury Gutierrez and Jorge Luis Piloto, meanwhile, are nominated for best song of the year for Lo mejor que hay en mi vida and Si yo fuera tú, respectively.

In Best Tropical Song are nominated Para celebrar by Jorge Luis Piloto (with Sergio George), and again Si yo fuera tú.

Echa Pa’llá (Manos Pa’rriba), by Pitbull Featuring Papaya, is a finalist for Best Performance in Urban music, whereas among young artists Leslie Cartaya appears, and Alex Cuba aspires to Best music video short version, with Eres tú.

During the show scheduled for the evening of November 21 at the Mandalay Bay hotel in the U.S. city of Las Vegas, they will announce the winners of the 48 categories of the 14th Latin Grammy Awards 2013, where in addition to the awards in competition they will hand their special awards, including the Excellence to maestro Juan Formell.
