The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported this Saturday 40 new infections with coronavirus, 22 of them among the crew of a Cuban merchant ship, and there are already 2,173 patients detected on the island.
The ship arrived in the province of Matanzas from Mexico, as explained in the daily press conference on the subject by Dr. Francisco Durán, director of epidemiology of MINSAP, who commented that in this way the number of active cases amounted to 233.
According to the official report, the confirmed crew members reside in the provinces of Havana, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Las Tunas, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo, although they were detected upon arrival on land and, therefore, did not influence the epidemiological behavior of their territories.
The remaining 18 positive cases were reported in Havana, confirming it as the epicenter of the disease in Cuba. Of these, 17 are contacts of confirmed cases, while in one the source of infection has not been specified.

The day’s good news is that at the close of this Friday the island completed a week without deaths from COVID-19, with which the number of deceased remains at 83.
Of the 40 new cases, 32 are men and only 8 are women, while 13 were asymptomatic at the time of detection. The most affected age group is those under 40, with 17 patients, including three children.
As for the active cases, 230 are in a stable clinical condition, while three are in serious condition and no critical patients are reported.
A total of 553 persons are still hospitalized in Cuba because of COVID-19, of whom 312 are suspects, and 1,817 are under primary healthcare surveillance.
