The assistant director for the United States of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Relations (MINREX), Johanna Tablada, this Thursday described as illegitimate the report published by the U.S. government on human trafficking in Cuba.
The State Department document includes Cuba in a list of nations that do not collaborate in the fight against trafficking in human beings, and considers as “human trafficking” the doctors who collaborate in missions in more than 70 countries.
Tablada added that the report is part of Washington’s campaign to discredit and attack Havana, exacerbated against health professionals and workers fighting COVID-19 abroad.
“The treatment given to Cuba in the report is a political act, which bears no relation to the actual performance of our country in this matter. The United States report does not document but invents everything it says. To classify Cuba’s international medical cooperation in 70 countries and territories as forced labor is a shameful act of disrespect for the fight against the scourge of human trafficking,” she said on Facebook.
She also said that it constitutes another attack on the peoples who do not submit to Trump’s designs, including Venezuela, Iran and Syria.
For his part, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, MINREX director general for the United States, added that with this the U.S. government tries to disguise and mask its racist policy of contempt for Latin American and Third World peoples, by calling South-South cooperation human trafficking.
