The electoral councils will carry out on January 12 a trial exercise of the elections of provincial governors and vice governors in Cuba, to assess the organizational conditions of the process, six days before its execution, the daily Granma reported.

According to Alina Balseiro, president of the National Electoral Council (CEN), “it is a strength and expression of our democracy” that the delegates to the municipal assemblies―nominated and elected by the people―are those who elect the proposed governors and vice governors.

The president of the electoral body said that, in the schedule established for the process, which will take place on January 18, “special attention was paid to training the little more than 3,000 authorities” involved in the exercise.

She also stated that the computer system that will support the data collected during the elective process has been perfected.

This Sunday’s exercise, which will have the participation of all electoral councils, will consist of reviewing the organizational and material conditions: “urns, use of national symbols, documentation, cubicles, premises, lighting, presence of collaborators and supervisors, food and transportation plan.”

In the second phase, the electoral authorities will conduct a mock vote of each of the municipalities, to assess the “flow” and the “validation of the information.”

After the exercise, reports will be issued with the incidents recorded during the drill to resolve them within 72 hours.
