With 93 new cases, Cuba is experiencing its worst day due to COVID-19 contagions

There were no deaths, 62 of those diagnosed were asymptomatic, in 22 individuals the source of infection was not specified.

The worst day to date, taking into account the number of new contagions by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, was experienced by Cuba yesterday when it registered 93 new cases, the health authorities reported today. Active cases as of midnight on August 9 numbered 496.

Now there are 3,046 infected, 2,460 recovered and 88 deceased as a result of the new coronavirus since, already a pandemic, it started hitting the island last March.

All the cases are Cuban, 61 were contacts of confirmed cases, 10 had the source of infection abroad and in 22 the source of infection is not specified.

By age group, they are as follows: 43 between 20 and 39 years old; 24 between 40 and 59; 16 with 60 and more than 60 and 10 under 20 years.

Geographical distribution of the new positive cases:

Havana (76 cases): Habana del Este (21), La Lisa (10), Marianao (8), Playa (8), 10 de Octubre (7), Plaza de la Revolución (6), Arroyo Naranjo (5), Boyeros (3), Centro Habana (2), Guanabacoa (2), Cerro (2), Cotorro (1) and San Miguel del Padrón (1).

Artemisa (10): Mariel (4), Artemisa (2), Candelaria (1), San Cristóbal (1), Guanajay (1) and Bahía Honda (1).

Ciego de Ávila (2): Ciro Redondo (1) and Ciego de Ávila (1).

Las Tunas (2): Las Tunas municipality (2).

Holguín (2): Holguín municipality (2).

Isla de la Juventud special municipality (1)

The imported cases are from Havana, Ciego de Ávila, Holguín, Las Tunas and Isla de la Juventud.

On Sunday, nine patients were discharged, two were reported critically ill and four were seriously ill.

959 people are hospitalized and 11,501 are under primary healthcare surveillance in their homes.

On May 2, Cuba had reported 74 new contagions in one day, a record that has been broken this time, when the number of tests carried out has also been exceeded with yesterday’s 4,267 tests.

The country has processed a total of 301,598 tests, of which 3,046 have been positive.
