Liuba María Hevia oxygenates the soul

The Contemporary Ballet Endedans sprouts in winter, music by Liuba María Hevia snuggles it to heaven, that “something” that one day the singer found for songwriting able to touch the soul of any mortal .

In the Karl Marx Theatre’s lobby, Endedans director, Tania Vergara , works on accents, softens expressions and adjusts gestures with the pace of work , depending on the choreographic discourse Pepe Hevia ordered hours before for the troupe. This painstaking work is just a detail of the great concert that Liuba , as everyone calls her , will offer on Saturday November 30 in this theater.

For Vergara, Latin American Choreography Award 2008, to observe the work of other artists is enriching pleasure and dancing again with Liuba oxygenates the soul she says with a long sigh middle of a rehearsal. “The lyrics sung by other people are not the same, when she sings becomes something else,” the teacher says totally seduced by music composition and voice.

For three previous concerts, Tania choreographed on works like “Angel and habanera “,” Someone is waiting for me ,” ” Havana in February ” and ” Short Song ” among others . The fourth call is special celebration of 30 years of artistic life of the singer and the possibility of working with Pepe Hevia , a dancer and choreographer admired by members of the company of Camagüey , a city in the central region of Cuba .

Hevia shares with Liuba besides the blood and last name, a taste for cultivated arts entwined together from seed. The sister remembers clearly how Pepe accompanied with dances her first compositions, from the time they were both poor students and embraced the feeling of living at a bare minimun. That memory forged in her the vision she presented days ago at a press conference: “I feel that music and dance flow like the same thing.”

According to Liuba, art, without being an ornament, should be beautiful. That taste through which she judges others from outside really comes from within, from her very essence, and perhaps the key to success on her island. Not all artists are fortunate to permeate people from different generations and she has gotten from the trova , son, bolero, tango , habanera , La Guajira and even a children songbook, with masterful recreations of Teresita Fernández whom she considers the essential one in music for children.

Liuba , Pepe and Tania fit perfectly as they are obsessive with work, detail, rigor, and that sweetness that Vergara calls ” good vibes ” stimulating certain energy or a pledge of magical moments .

Pepe Hevia fulfilled a childhood dream to build the steps for video clip of various compositions of his sister. The art of both in “As an elf” won the award for 2001 best video clip in Cuba.

This show, entitled So many lives will pass to posterity on a DVD by Colibri Productions label to treasure three decades of Liuba career, which she wants to dedicate to all the essential things in it.

A friend reminded her days ago that 20 years is nothing but 30 were somewhat, however, Liuba’s voice shines on par with her so young soul.

After having rehearsed for hours with a disk, the Endedans dancers exchanged in a hallway on the wonderful experience of working with different choreographers, other requirements and ways of thinking about movement. Suddenly we heard the song line stops almost at its end and someone requests a detail concerning the music. “It is Liuba” a dancer notes amazed, “that’s Liuba” others reaffirm. “She has a remarkable ability to listen well to the disks and in the theaters,” certified the first girl surprised and happy. We had time listening to Liuba in person. The singer also went over some of its parts with the tenderness and dedication as always.
