On the other hand, Durán explained that of the 1,285 cases of COVID-19 in Cuba, 102 have needed intensive care, and 51 of them required artificial respiration due to complications of the disease.

Quoted by the Agencia Cubana de Noticias news agency, the doctor noted that 11 of those patients have come out of critical condition, seven remain in therapies, and that the average days of use of respirators is 8.5.

According to Durán, in the hospitals where people with the COVID-19 are treated, 29 patients have died, which represents 28.4 percent, which together with the eight who have died in the intensive care units of other facilities, total 37, for a 36.2 percent mortality rate, below international reports.

In Cuba, the MINSAP authorities reported that the disease has claimed 49 lives after having reported this Friday its worst day with six deaths. The deaths correspond to four women and two men.
