Cuba reported an increase in infections caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus this Sunday, when 1,060 cases were diagnosed, the highest figure in the last 15 days, as Dr. Francisco Durán stressed today during the presentation of the daily report issued by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).
The number of deaths decreased compared to what had been happening in previous days, although six deaths were reported on Sunday: three women and three men, aged between 48 and 91 years and residents in the municipalities of Bayamo (Granma); San Miguel del Padrón, Plaza de la Revolución (Havana); Cárdenas, Jovellanos (Matanzas), and Santiago de Cuba.
With them, the death toll from the coronavirus pandemic stands at 531 on the island. So far, just in April, the reported deaths totaled 106, for which the fatality in this period is the highest of the year: 0.58%.

Regarding patients tested positive for the virus, the majority owe the contagion to autochthonous transmission (1,052), 1,018 were contacts of confirmed cases and the number of imported cases decreased to eight, with the incidence of Cuban travelers from Russia, Spain and Italy. Two foreigners were diagnosed in Cuba with the virus this Sunday.
By territories, after processing a total of 21,568 samples, the highest figures correspond to Havana (568), Matanzas (117), Santiago de Cuba (82), Granma (76) and Holguín (63).
On the other hand, Ciego de Ávila (five), Camagüey (four), Guantánamo (two) and Mayabeque (one) accounted for the lowest figures. The special municipality Isla de la Juventud did not report infections.
Twelve municipalities—eight from Havana, three from Matanzas and one from Sancti Spíritus—represent 38.8% of the transmission in the last two weeks. The most complicated situation is in Old Havana, Regla and Cabaiguán.
Regarding the incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, in the same period, Havana, Matanzas, Sancti Spíritus and Granma are the provinces with the highest incidence rates.
44.4% of today’s cases were asymptomatic and, by age group, the situation behaved as follows: 166 children under 20 years of age; 315 between 20 and 39; 388 between 40 and 59, and 191 over 60.
Until midnight, 24,853 people were hospitalized, there were 4,911 active cases and 62 patients were in intensive care: 30 in critical condition and 32 in serious condition.
There 1,038 were discharges on the day, and with which 89,073 patients have already recovered from this disease in Cuba.
