The number of people killed in the explosion at the Saratoga hotel reached 42 on Tuesday, according to the Cuban Ministry of Public Health’s (Minsap) report this afternoon (13:00).

The number has risen during the last 24 hours. Rescuers have managed to access the double basement of the building, where some of the workers were suspected to have been trapped. The work carried out by the rescue forces has made it possible to continue recovering bodies from under the rubble of the tourist facility, as well as from the surrounding buildings.

The Minsap also informed that the number of injured people has risen to 96. 17 people are still hospitalized in five hospitals in Havana, among them five minors. As for their condition, six patients are reported as critical (two children) and two as serious.

At the time of closing of the information provided by the health agency, 37 of the people affected by the explosion had been discharged from the hospital to continue their recovery at home.

Despite the fatigue, the rescue teams continue the search under the rubble, which is being carefully removed. Drones are used to survey the place and monitor the team’s progress.
