Coronavirus: Cuba reports 5 deaths and 832 new infections

Until Thursday midnight, 21,425 patients were hospitalized, of which 3,318 are active cases with the disease, while 3,733 are suspected of having contracted it, said Dr. Durán in his daily press conference on the epidemiological situation on the island.

Cuba registered this Thursday five deaths from COVID-19 and 832 coronavirus infections, after processing 19,842 PCR samples, reported the national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Dr. Francisco Duran.

At the close of the report issued this Friday, 21,425 patients were hospitalized, of which 3,318 are active cases with the disease, while 3,733 are suspected of having contracted it, said Dr. Durán in his daily press conference on the epidemiological situation on the island.

With the figures reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll from the epidemic in Cuba amounted to 413 and the number of patients reached 70,634.

The specialist stressed that of the total number of patients diagnosed on Thursday, 124 are of pediatric age and of them, eight infants, all contacts of previously confirmed cases.

At the time of diagnosis, only eight of the new cases had no determined source of infection, and 805 were contacts of confirmed cases; 394 had no SARS-CoV-2 disease symptoms.

Of the active patients with the virus, 3,251 have a stable clinical evolution, meanwhile, 67 patients are in intensive care, 29 of them in critical condition and 38 in serious condition.

Yesterday, there were 843 discharges, with which the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 on the island reached 66,847, explained the epidemiology specialist.

The Cuban capital continues to register the highest level of daily infections, with 514 patients diagnosed during the day and 6,418 positive cases in the last fortnight, which represents an incidence rate of more than 300 per 100,000 inhabitants in that period.
