Coronavirus in Cuba: 762 infections and four deaths this Thursday

The reported discharges involved 768 people and with them 54,862 patients recovered from the coronavirus on the island. 77 patients in intensive care.

The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported 762 new infections caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which on Thursday also resulted in four deaths in Cuba and a high number of people in intensive care.

Most of the infections are due to autochthonous transmission (759), 741 were related to confirmed cases and 48.8% of the total were asymptomatic.

The three provinces that report the highest numbers of patients from COVID-19: Havana (368), Granma (105) and Pinar del Río (65). On the contrary, of the fourteen territories involved, the lowest numbers come from Matanzas (eight) and Holguín (one).

The capital continues to present the highest incidence rate, followed by Mayabeque and Pinar del Río, although only the Melena del Sur municipality of Mayabeque has a higher rate than these three provinces combined: 1,344 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Melena del Sur is one of the 12 municipalities (10 in Havana and one in Pinar del Río) that concentrates 45.2% of the transmission in the last fifteen days, according to the MINSAP.

Two years of pandemic in the Cuban calendar

The four deceased, three men and one woman, were from Havana (three) and Sancti Spíritus, and their ages range from 72 to 76 years. With them, the number of fatalities reached 365. Just in March, there have been 41 deaths from coronavirus.

Until midnight, 24,493 people were hospitalized, 77 of them in intensive care, the second highest figure in a year: 34 were in critical condition and 43 in serious condition.

Yesterday, reported discharges involved 768 people, and with them, 54,862 patients recovered from the coronavirus in Cuba.

The number of imported cases, for its part, decreased to three; and four foreigners tested positive for the virus.

The samples processed in a day in which a year of confrontation with the new coronavirus was commemorated discreetly amounted to 17,559, according to the MINSAP.
