92.6% of the Cuban population will have received the three doses of COVID-19 vaccines in November, according to a mass immunization scheme set out by the island’s health authorities this Tuesday.

The director of Science and Innovation of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Ileana Morales, explained that in September “all the possible population to be vaccinated against COVID-19 will be within the immunization schemes applied by the country, at least with one dose,” Cubadebate reported.

Around 600,000 convalescents of the contagious disease will receive the vaccines as of September 8, and the process is expected to conclude on October 30.

Regarding people allergic to thimerosal, Dr. Morales pointed out that 40,000 individuals will receive doses of Abdala free of that component between September 15 and October 20, and another 65,000 will be immunized with Soberana 02 between September 15 and November 17.

At the suggestion of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the immunization schedule was accelerated to protect Cubans from the danger of the new strains of the coronavirus circulating on the island, which is why this month the vaccination of five million persons will begin.

Morales affirmed that the vaccination campaign for the pediatric population will be intensive, on a scheme that includes the administration of Abdala to students of 12th grade, of the third year of technical-professional education and the last year of pedagogical training, between September 3 and October 4.
