Around 600,000 convalescents of the contagious disease will receive the vaccines as of September 8, and the process is expected to conclude on October 30.
Regarding people allergic to thimerosal, Dr. Morales pointed out that 40,000 individuals will receive doses of Abdala free of that component between September 15 and October 20, and another 65,000 will be immunized with Soberana 02 between September 15 and November 17.
At the suggestion of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the immunization schedule was accelerated to protect Cubans from the danger of the new strains of the coronavirus circulating on the island, which is why this month the vaccination of five million persons will begin.
The specialist reported that until August 29, 13,739,821 doses of Cuban vaccines had been applied in 87 of the country’s municipalities, and the scheme has been completed in 27 of them.
To date, 5,458,785 individuals had received the first dose of one of the vaccines developed on the island against COVID-19; 4,606,646 had the second dose and 3,674,390 already have the complete immunization scheme, which represents 32.81% of the population, the source indicated.
The expert explained that currently 1,447,494 individuals are in the process of being vaccinated and this month 5,023,798 will be added, while clarifying that 339,027 individuals is considered a “non-vaccinable” population.
Morales affirmed that the vaccination campaign for the pediatric population will be intensive, on a scheme that includes the administration of Abdala to students of 12th grade, of the third year of technical-professional education and the last year of pedagogical training, between September 3 and October 4.
According to the source, from September 5 to November 5, children and teenagers from 12 to 18 years old will be immunized with Soberana 02, and from September 15 to November 15, also with Soberana 02, children from 2 to 11 years old will be vaccinated.
