Cuba exceeds 50,000 cases of coronavirus, almost 23,000 in February alone

Havana continues to be the province where transmission is greatest. The territory remains in the lead by incidence rate, followed by Mayabeque, Pinar del Río, Santiago de Cuba, the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud and Guantánamo.

Cuba exceeded 50,000 infections caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus after the 811 cases reported today by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP); of these, 22,998 occurred in February, which is confirmed as the worst month during the pandemic.

Deaths, meanwhile, decreased this Sunday, when Havana reported the death of two men, 79 and 81 years old. With them, COVID-19 closed the second month of 2021 with 108 fatalities. In almost a year, it has left 324 deaths on the island.

Most of the cases reported up to midnight are due to autochthonous transmission (804); of these, 774 are contacts of confirmed cases and in 30 individuals the origin of the source of infection had not been identified.

Seven of the infected acquired the virus outside of Cuba, in a day in which six foreigners were also identified as positive with the disease.

Havana continues to be the province where transmission is greatest. The territory remains in the lead by incidence rate, followed by Mayabeque, Pinar del Río, Santiago de Cuba, the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud and Guantánamo.

Two years of pandemic in the Cuban calendar

Only yesterday, the capital reported 377 infections.

The figures reported by Pinar del Río were 85, Camagüey (60), Mayabeque (49), Santiago (45) and Guantánamo (40).

The total number of hospitalized people also rose this day, and now 19,327 are under some kind of surveillance; 62 of them were in ICUs, where 23 patients were reported in critical condition 39 in serious condition.

The island’s 22 specialized laboratories processed 19,155 samples yesterday, according to the MINSAP.

The day’s discharges totaled 864, which indicates that at least 46,106 people have recovered from the disease.

51.8% of all new infections were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis.
