It started around 7 pm local time, and it has not been controlled yet. Flames and black smoke were seen coming from the medieval church, which is in the process of being renovated.

The local press quoted the Paris fire department as saying the fire was “potentially linked” to the renovation work.

The police have cordoned off the area and are evacuating the many tourists who were inside the cathedral.

The images published online and on local TV show flames in the upper part of the cathedral, in both bell towers.

The fire, still uncontrolled, affects above all the upper part of the cathedral in an area where the scaffolding of the restoration works can be seen.
